My name is Kawwal Khoudeida Hasan. Irepresent the Yezidi communityof Lincoln NE. As a Yezidi leader I help my community by getting our voices out to the people who dont have much knowledge about the Yezidi religion and the Yezidi people. I also visit with the congressman and the senators on a regular basis to talk about the issues of the Yezidi people here and the Yezidi people living Iraq. So far we have not gotten much help.

We are grateful to the government of the United States for bringing us here. We appreciate the principle of religious freedom that is embedded in the constitution of the United States and we relish the ability to freely practice our religion after many years of persecution . We appreciate any advice and assistance we are given as we seek our new found religious freedom here and in our homeland.

We are a poor people and much of what we once had has been lost. Our land, homes and water supplies were taken or destroyed during the rule of Saddam Hussein. Approximately 250 Yezidi villages near Mosul and in the Sinjar Mountains were destroyed . The river Dejela, which supported Yezidi communities, was contaminated with poisons. Sites sacred to the Yezidi people have been vandalized and threatened . The Yezidi people want the lands that were taken away from us to be returned.

A couple of years ago on August 14, 2007, the most deadliest of all the terrorists attacks against the Yezidis occurred in the villages of Khahtaniya and Al Jazeera in the district of Sinjar, located in the northwest Iraq. Four hundred Yezidis were massacred in the attack, 300 were wounded, and another 70 went missing. This is an irrefutable proof that the attacks will be worse if the American military pulls out of Iraq.

Our goal in both Iraq and here in the United States are to improve our capacity to serve and protect our people by acquiring the needed learning and building the needed resources to be productive and self-sufficient. We hope to establish relationships with qualified legal counsel so we may better understand and act on the matters that affect our interests. We hope that you take in consideration the information we have acknowledged you about the Yezidi issues and we appreciate any advice and support you may provide.

  1. Hello my name is Ryan, I am a 30 year old Hindu American. I am writing to you because I truly feel that I owe a the Yezidi religion and Tausi Melek for helping me in my spiritual life.I was not born Hindu I was born Christian. I became Hindu after a lot of soul searching for what God is. When I learned of the Yezidi I Instantly fell in love.I almost immediately started praying to Tausi Melek for spiritual guidance. I am sending you this email in hopes of friendship and to better understand devotion to the Peacock lord. I know I am no Yezidi and can never be, but surely Tausi Melek accepts my prayers. It is my highest goal to one day travel to Mt. lalish and have the blessings Sheikh Adi. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Please have a blessed day

    Hol Hola Tausi Melek

  2. I am an alevi Kurd from Dersim and deeply saddened and ashamed by the treacherous failure of the peshmerga to protect the Yezidis against ISIS. Yezidis are the soul and root of our Kurdish nation. If a nation fails to nurture and protect her roots will be doomed for her own demise.

  3. I am praying for your people. I am grateful for all those who have been able to seek refuge in the United States, and specifically, in Lincoln. Keep the faith. The Creator of all loves you.

  4. I am from Boston, MA. I am deeply very sad for what is happening to the Yezidi people and, of course, to the other groups of people who are being slaughtered by those very evil ISIS. It is truly heartbroken. Those ISIS are nothing, but evil brutal savage beasts. They are NOT human beings, nor they are people. When I saw the Yezidi politician, Vian, on the videoclip, speaking with sadness and with pain at the Iraqi parliament, begging the Iraqi government to help those people, I started to cry.

I have to say that I know an ex-Muslim who does not like Muslims. He told me 5 years ago, not to trust them and the ex-Muslims was right and he is still right. He avoids those Muslims as much as he can. He does not trust them at all.

I have read a lot of bad things about Islam. It is a very dangerous totalitarian and political cult.

  5. What is happening with those Yezidis and with those innocent people from different groups is like watching the return of the Armenian genocide that happened a long time ago.

  6. I am Yezidi from Republic of Georgia and I have been living in Canada from 1995

  7. Greetings to you in the name of Yasu (Isa) prophet of The God of Ibrahim, Ishaiak and Ya’Kov, more commonly known in the west as Yeshua or Jesus. I was very pleased to hear the interviews with Yazidi members Julie Chanoff and Suleyman Mahrad on National Public Radio in August. Forgive me for misspelling their names. My heart goes out to the Yazidi people in Iraq, and believe as freedom loving Americans we must do more to help create a safe and autonomous region for Kurdistan and other minorities and cultures and to promote mutual respect and harmony worldwide through open forum dialogue. Blessings of peace and safety unto you my brothers in the name of Yahweh, amen. John Mattithyah
